QR codes on real estate signs: the realtor's quick guide

A QR code on a "For Sale" sign turns sidewalk traffic into qualified leads. Here's the realtor's playbook.

Sign rider QR sizing

Real estate sign rider QRs get scanned from 6-12 feet — buyers driving slowly past, or walking by. That means 5-8 inches on the sign. The standard sign rider is 6×24 inches; an 8-inch QR fills the height comfortably with room for "Scan for video tour."

For window flyers in the listing's front window: 2-3 inches is fine since the scan distance is closer.

What to link to (in order of effectiveness)

  1. A 60-90 second walkthrough video. Highest engagement. Hosted on YouTube, Vimeo, or your MLS provider's video page.
  2. The MLS listing page (Zillow, Realtor.com, your brokerage's listing page) — comprehensive but mobile-optimized.
  3. A virtual tour / 3D walkthrough (Matterport, etc.) — high effort to produce, very high engagement.

Avoid: PDF flyers. Mobile PDF rendering is terrible. Convert the same content to a mobile-friendly HTML page instead.

Why editable destinations win for realtors

Listings change. They go pending. They sell. Open houses get scheduled, then rescheduled. Sometimes the property is taken off market and relisted at a new price.

With most QR generators, "free" means static — once your sign is printed, the QR points to whatever it pointed to. With OneDollarQRcodes you email us a new destination URL anytime in the 3-year window and the same QR image now points there.

That means: same sign, same sticker, but Tuesday's QR goes to the listing page and Sunday's QR goes to the open house reschedule notice.

Multi-listing approach

If you list 20+ properties a year, get one QR per property. Each has its own short link. When the property closes, point the QR to your "next listing" or "thanks for viewing" page. Sticker library reuses well.

Branding

Match the QR color to your brokerage if you can do it without losing contrast. Most agency colors are dark blue or burgundy — both work fine against white.
